Ford, one of the world’s largest automakers, will start assembling batteries for electric cars at its Craiova plant, according to local sources consulted by Economedia. The company declined to officially confirm the information, but details provided suggest that Romania will play a crucial role in the production of batteries for electric vehicles.
According to sources, the necessary battery cells will be produced in another location, with final assembly to be carried out in Romania. This process represents the final stage of battery production, and its implementation in Craiova reinforces the important role of this plant in the company’s electrification strategy.
Ford Craiova: A new era of electric vehicle production
From 2024, Ford’s Craiova plant will play a central role in the production of electric vehicles. Ford has already announced it will produce three electric car models in Craiova, including a fully electric version of the Puma compact SUV. This initiative is part of the company’s commitment to accelerate the transition to more environmentally friendly vehicles. In addition to producing the electric Puma, the Craiova plant has already started production of the Transit Courier and Tourneo Courier, in diesel and gasoline versions. The electric versions of these models, E-Transit Courier and E-Tourneo Courier, are scheduled to be produced in the near future, strengthening the plant’s position in Ford’s global portfolio.
