Startup of the prototype plant is targeted for later this year.<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div id=\"wd-6488055b95b7b\" class=\"wd-text-block wd-wpb reset-last-child wd-rs-6488055b95b7b text-left \">\n\t\t\t<p>Irad Rekem, TAT Managing Director, stated: \u201cWe are proud to bring our expertise and innovative technologies to this collaborative effort with BASF to recycle end-of-life batteries. This will be a recycling process that will demonstrate efficient metal recovery and production of lithium salts based on solvent extraction.\u201d<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div id=\"wd-6488056759760\" class=\"wd-text-block wd-wpb reset-last-child wd-rs-6488056759760 text-left \">\n\t\t\t<p>\u201cUsing recycled metals for production of new battery materials can reduce the CO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0emission impact of batteries by about 25\u00a0percent compared to the use of virgin metals,\u201d said Daniel Sch\u00f6nfelder, Senior Vice President Battery Base Metals and Recycling at BASF. \u201cWe will close the loop from end-of-life batteries to new battery production and will ensure an exceptionally low CO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0footprint for key metals needed to meet the growing demand for eMobility. By collaborating with Tenova we can assess new approaches in further optimizing the recycling process.\u201d<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div id=\"wd-648805776b060\" class=\"wd-text-block wd-wpb reset-last-child wd-rs-648805776b060 text-left \">\n\t\t\t<p>TAT is part of Tenova, a global company specialized in sustainable solutions for the green transition of the metals industry, and it is also highly experienced in hydrometallurgy and project-specific process technologies.<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div id=\"wd-6488058d10546\" class=\"wd-text-block wd-wpb reset-last-child wd-rs-6488058d10546 text-left \">\n\t\t\t<p>Successful startup and operation of the prototype plant is an important milestone in BASF\u2019s strategy to grow its footprint in recycling and recovering valuable metals, including nickel, cobalt, and lithium.<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div id=\"wd-6488059d0697d\" class=\"wd-text-block wd-wpb reset-last-child wd-rs-6488059d0697d text-left \">\n\t\t\t<p>The investment in Schwarzheide reinforces BASF\u2019s support of the European Commission\u2019s agenda towards a European battery production value chain and is part of the \u201cImportant Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI)\u201d approved by the European Commission on December 9, 2019 under the European Union State aid rules.
